Moving forwards in God’s work

Since last year’s AGM there have been some significant changes .....

At last we have been able to open a Drop In Centre in Castleton; building on the good work done by the youth bus between Jan 2008 and March 2009.

The room we use as the HVCYW office has been re-organised and opened on June 8th 2010.  Facilities include hot and cold drinks; ‘tuck’; board & video games; relaxing seating and, thanks to the good offices of John Harrison of Speedwell and Peak Caverns, we can still use the Peak Cavern car park for outdoor games in the summer (very popular when the bus was around).  It will be interesting to see how the centre develops compared with Hathersage at the other end of the valley.

This is a partnership venture with Castleton Methodist Church; the church members have put a lot of prayer, energy (physical, mental, spiritual & emotional) into the project.

The centre is headed by Lin Chilcott, assisted by part time youth worker Paul Lee (from Korea) and with a team of local volunteers.

A lot of hard work has been done in revising the constitution:

Expanding the aims and objectives so that we will be more pro-active in christian outreach and support of young christians

Simplifying a lot of the outdated parts of the original constitution.

This involved email constitution with the Charity Commissioners (who have to approve alterations since we are a registered charity).  They were very helpful with comments and advice.

The revised constitution was put to members for approval a special meeting just before the AGM which was on July 13th at Castleton Methodist Church.  The revised constitution was unanimously approved.

We now need to move forward in:

Increasing our financial support - currently we are running at a big monthly deficit and have enough reserves for about another 2 years operation

Increasing the number of trustees. We now have a new trustee - Tina Hudson joined the team at the AGM
